Breast Lift Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure to raise sagging breasts by removing excess skin and reshaping the breast tissue into a youthful contour. A breast lift does not increase the size of the breasts, although if a patient desires larger breasts, implants can be inserted at the same time. Mastopexy raises the level of the nipple; the areola can also be reduced, and gives a more youthful appearance to the breasts. Mastopexy is an outpatient procedure. We can almost always do the surgery under twilight sleep anesthesia. Mastopexy surgery does involve scars around the nipples and underneath the breasts. In some cases, a mini-left can be done, which results in much smaller scars. In either case, the scars usually fade with time.
